Problems are a signal for changes

1

Everything I make turns out uglyish, I don’t know how to draw

The most common problem new illustrators face is lack of knowledge of the basics: how to work with lines, shapes, and perspective. As a result the shape is lost, and the viewer fails to comprehend the size and shape of objects or characters in the frame.

In order to speak the same language, we’ll start from the very basics, from how to place various objects in an illustration. After you learn a certain set of rules and guidelines, you’ll hardly keep on making obvious mistakes again.

2

I can draw a frame, but not a whole story

Many animators don’t know Adobe Illustrator well and draw everything not in the most appropriate way. Besides, a poorly organized workflow may force you to get rid of something you have already done.

In this course, we’ll study Adobe Illustrator in detail to enable you to implement your ideas easily, with only minor adjustments. A lot of tricks and lifehacks will accelerate the process of working on an illustration and make it substantially easier to import illustrations to After Effects for further animation.

3

Drawing takes too much of my time

Typically, it is the result of the fact that all the work is based on intuition. There are always questions where to place an object to improve the storytelling, especially when you work on adjacent frames in large projects.

In this course, I’ll teach you how to prioritize things and how to direct the viewer’s attention with the help of shape contrast, dynamics, color, light, size, etc. Besides, we’ll figure out how to use framing, when you should resort to it, when and whether you need to alternate frames.

Topics covered:
The course is designed to effectively introduce you to the basic stages of working with Illustration, even if you have never done this before.
Nice Sketch from Scratch
It is the first and most important stage of creating an illustration. Here, we’ll analyze methods and tools to create sketches as well as compare them. Next, we’ll learn how to draw simple things to get used to drawing by hand.
Perspective
We’ll find out what the main types of perspectives are and practice creating basic ones, isometry and one-point linear perspective, specifically. You’ll need those in your work.
Adobe Illustrator
We’ll study how the program works and all the necessary tools. I’ll also tell you how to organize the workspace and work files to save your time and allow you to enjoy drawing and working with files while animating.
Color
It is one of the most important topics that we need to cover thoroughly. We’ll analyze methods to create palettes, types of contrasts, and I’ll give you some tips on how to work with color to illustrate for motion design.
Character
At this stage, we’ll learn to create beautiful and interesting characters so they can be easily animated further. I’ll also tell you about my personal experience, techniques, and tips on how to ease the task for yourself and for a person who will animate it later.
Composition
I’ll share the knowledge, tips, and lifehacks on how to make a scene beautiful, informative, and useful for the project.
Scene
Here, we’ll cover the variety of scene types in motion design, the rules and the logic of designing them.
Storyboard
Based on the knowledge of designing scenes, I’ll tell you how to compile them in stories, thereby creating interesting and informative storyboards for your projects.
Style Coherency
Here, I’ll tell you how to pick a style for a project and stick to it while creating all frames for your project.
The workflow of an illustrator and a motion designer
We’ll talk a little about the work synergy of an illustrator and a motion designer, how they can facilitate and speed up their interaction and each other’s workflow.
