Launch Control – Auto Car Rig for Blender: The Fastest Way to Rig and Animate Cars

AD

If you’ve ever tried to animate a car in Blender manually, you know the pain — countless empties, constraints, wheel rotations, suspension hacks, and a mess of keyframes. Launch Control kills that headache. It’s a dedicated car rigging and animation tool that turns a static 3D model into a fully functional, physics-aware vehicle in minutes.

What is Launch Control?

Launch Control is a Blender add-on built specifically for rigging and animating four-wheeled vehicles. It automates most of the tedious rigging steps and lets you focus on the animation and visual polish. It’s aimed at product visualizations, commercials, games, and cinematic car shots.

The system only supports cars with wheelbases between 1 m and 12 m — so no monster trucks, no six-wheelers, no bicycles.

Key Features

1. One-Click Rigging

The add-on can auto-detect wheels, body mesh, brake discs, and even wheel covers. If the naming matches its convention, it rigs instantly. If not, you can manually tag parts. Either way, you can go from import to rigged car in less than five minutes.

2. Animation Presets

Built-in driving presets handle common motions like straight driving, drifting, donuts, jumps, and ramps. You can also draw a custom path and the car will follow it. Updating the path automatically updates the animation.

3. Realistic Steering

Ackermann steering geometry is integrated, so the front wheels turn naturally without the unnatural “parallel wheel” problem.

4. Real-Time Physics

Gravity, suspension bounce, body roll, acceleration, and braking can be tuned in real time. You can preview physics instantly without baking.

5. Ground Detection

The car sticks to the surface underneath it, even on uneven terrain. This works with animated ground planes, perfect for off-road or stunt scenes.

6. Camber, Caster, and Speedometers

Wheel tilt angles can be adjusted for realism. Speed readouts can be displayed during animation, useful for timing stunts or matching live-action shots.

7. Export to Other Platforms

You can export your rigged and animated car to Unreal Engine, Omniverse, Cinema 4D, and more without re-rigging.

Workflow Overview

Launch Control’s process is split into four steps:

  1. Select Vehicle – Choose a local model or linked asset.

  2. Rigging – Automatic or manual part tagging.

  3. Animation – Apply presets or create a custom driving path.

  4. Physics – Adjust suspension, body roll, speed, and more in real time.

Versions and Pricing

  • Indie – Core rigging, animation presets, physics simulation. Suitable for most freelancers and hobbyists.

  • Pro – Adds advanced CAD support, linked assets, animation libraries, and DCC bridging for bigger pipelines.

  • Studio – All features unlocked, for large production teams.

Why It’s Worth Using

  • Massive Time Saver – Turns days of manual rigging into minutes.

  • Realistic Output – Steering, suspension, and ground contact look believable without manual tweaking.

  • Flexible – Works for cinematic shots, ads, and game assets.

  • Beginner-Friendly – Minimal setup, no complex rig knowledge required.
