If you already understand what Railcut does, then version v1.0.1.1 is not a reinvention. It is a stability + refinement update to an already very specific tool. The core idea remains the same: bring a proper editing workflow inside Adobe After Effects without forcing you to jump to Premiere.

What Railcut Still Is (Core Idea)

Railcut by Jake In Motion is a track-based editing extension that converts your messy AE layers into a clean, editor-style timeline.

Instead of this:

• Random stacked layers
• Confusing timing
• Manual trimming

You get:

• Video tracks
• Audio tracks
• Clip-based editing

It basically turns After Effects into something closer to an NLE (non-linear editor), but only for editing tasks, not full editing workflows.

What’s New in v1.0.1.1 (Realistically)

This update is not about new flashy features. It is about:

• Bug fixes
• Stability improvements
• Workflow polish
• Better syncing with AE timeline

Since Railcut is still early-stage (1.x), these small updates matter a lot. They make the tool more usable in real projects rather than just “cool to try.”

What Makes Railcut Different (Still True in This Version)

Railcut solves one specific pain:

???? Editing inside After Effects is horrible by default.

So instead of replacing AE, it overlays a better system:

• Multi-track timeline (video + audio separation)
• Familiar editing tools like:
  • Ripple edit
  • Rolling edit
  • Slip / slide
  • Blade tool
• Drag-and-drop clips directly into timeline
• Clip thumbnails + audio waveforms for visibility

All of this makes rough editing, timing, and sequencing way faster.

The Important Reality (Don’t Misunderstand This)

Railcut is NOT:

• A replacement for Premiere Pro
• A full editing software
• A performance booster

In fact:

• After Effects is still the “source of truth”
• Railcut just reads your comp and displays it differently
• If AE is slow, Railcut will also be slow

This is critical. Many people misunderstand this and expect miracles.

Real Workflow Usage

Where Railcut actually shines:

• Rough cutting footage before animation
• Timing motion graphics
• Editing animatics
• Preparing sequences before compositing

Basically:
???? Quick editing without leaving After Effects

And that alone removes the annoying:
AE ↔ Premiere ↔ AE workflow loop

Limitations (Still There in v1.0.1.1)

Even with updates, some limitations remain:

• No true J-cuts or L-cuts (audio/video separation limitations)
• No audio scrubbing
• Playback depends entirely on AE
• Not suited for heavy editing projects

Also, since it is still early:

• Expect bugs
• Expect changes in future updates

Real Community Take (Important)

From actual users:

“It brings a true editing interface into After Effects”

But also:

• Some users say performance depends heavily on hardware
• Others point out it is best for quick edits, not full projects

So yeah, expectations matter.

Who Should Use This

Railcut makes sense if you:

• Work mostly inside After Effects
• Do motion graphics or short-form content
• Want faster editing workflow
• Hate switching between apps

Avoid it if you:

• Do full video editing projects
• Need advanced audio control
• Already rely heavily on Premiere

Final Thoughts

Railcut v1.0.1.1 is not revolutionary because of new features. It is important because it refines a very useful idea.

It does one thing:
???? Makes editing inside After Effects less painful

And honestly, that alone is enough.

If your workflow involves constant switching just to trim clips or rearrange timing, this tool saves time. If you expect it to replace a real editor, you will be disappointed.
